THE ART FOR GOOD™ STORY
Once
upon a time there was a little girl who loved to make art and dreamed
of becoming an artist. As she grew, her studies in art taught her how
to make good art, art that was well-composed, well-crafted, and
carefully considered. But she longed to go beyond the making of
beautiful pictures. She wanted her artwork to matter not only for
herself, but also for others.
Time passed as she pursued her art. One day she came across an insightful quotation by Elbert Hubbard who said, "Art is not a thing; art is a way." As she considered this quotation, she wondered, how is my art a way--a way to what, for what? She puzzled over this question. She thought about people she knew with personal challenges, people with multiple sclerosis, diabetes, cancer, cystic fibrosis, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and other difficulties. She thought about people she did not know, children who go to bed hungry and those who are victims of disasters. She thought about the world, our shared home, and the importance of caring for the environment. Her heart went out to them all. She wished that, as an artist, there was a way to use her talents and abilities for the good of others. Then she thought again of the quote, "art is a way." Not only could her heart go out, but her art could go out to help as well. She decided that her art could help support worthy causes for people and the environment. She knew it would be an art of compassion and love.
Instead of only being concerned with making good art, she would also make art for good.
That is my story of how ART FOR GOOD was born.
